Come play with us

Golf is the most popular activity in SIR — so popular that we run two groups: one that plays a full 18 holes and a newer group that plays 9 holes. Come out for one or try both. Both groups are open to all levels, from the seasoned player to someone dusting off the clubs after years away.

Every week we play a different course, and each event goes out by email in advance with all the particulars — where we're playing, the tee time, and how to reserve your spot and pay. It's low-pressure, sociable golf: the round is as much about the company as the score.

What it costs & how to join

To play with the 18-hole group you'll need a GHIN handicap index through the NCGA (Northern California Golf Association): NCGA membership is $48 for 2026, plus $12 toward Golf Genius, the software we use to run our weekly tournaments — $60 total. No GHIN number yet? No problem — once you join, we'll sign you up with NCGA and get one for you.

You'll also need to be a SIR member in good standing — join the branch and pay your annual dues, and you're eligible for the golf club. You're welcome to come out and play a round with us before you join.

Each time the 18-hole group plays, the cost includes $5 for prize money — it funds closest-to-the-pin on par 3s, the top three low-net scores, and skins, and helps pay for our free barbecue every July for members and spouses.

We arrange carpooling to most courses, so you're not driving solo — and you get the HOV / Express lanes.

The tournament specifics above (NCGA, Golf Genius, prize money) describe the 18-hole group; the newer 9-hole group is more casual — ask at a round for its details.

How to get out for a round

Playing with us runs on a weekly email — that's the key thing to know:

1. 1Make sure you're on the golf group's email list so you receive the weekly announcement. (New to the group? Contact the golf group leader to be added.)
2. 2Each week's email names the course, day, and tee time and tells you exactly how to reserve a spot and pay — just follow the instructions in that email.
3. 3Show up a little early, introduce yourself on the first tee, and play your game. Someone will always help a newcomer feel at home.
